There are many famous places in Nepal for trekking like Manaslu Circuit Trek, Langtang Valley Trek, Rara Lake Trek, Ghandruk Trek, Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek, Mustang Trek, Gokyo Valley Trek, Dolpo Trek, Everest Base Camp Trek etc. Among these, we will focus on Everest Base Camp Trek in this article.

Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most voted long-distance treks in the world. Actually Everest Base Camp refers to two base camps ie. South and North Base Camp which is on opposite sides of Mount Everest. South Base Camp is in Nepal at an altitude of 5364 metres (17,598 ft) and North Base Camp is in Tibet at 5,150 metres (16,900 ft).

Way to Everest Base Camp begins from Lukla which is just about 65 km's away.

Generally Hiking to Everest Base Camp is about 14 days, total (back and forth) distance is 130 kms and elevation about 5380 m.

Best Time (Month) to go Everest Base Camp

In fact, winter, cloudy and rainy season are not considered to the best time to visit Everest Base Camp(EBC). So, most of the trek service provider suggests the tourist go during Spring(mid-April to early June) and Fall(late September to early November). During this month it is neither snowy nor cloudy.

Greatest Risk while trekking Everest Base Camp

Trekkers on Everest base camp may experience altitude sickness(or mountain sickness). Headache is considered as a primary symptom for altitude sickness. Altitude sickness has no correlation with fitness levels, age or gender. Anyone can be vulnerable to this.

What is Altitude Sickness and Its Treatment?

Altitude Sickness/ Mountain Sickness is weak causing illness that occurs at higher altitude. It frequently occurs with the travellers from lower altitudes who climb the mountain. Symptoms include lack of appetite, headache, insomnia (अनिद्रा), vomiting and fatigue(थकान), nausea, dizziness and short breathing. So, You should always take time while climbing or trekking to any high elevation.
